This wasn't a page... It was a blasted endurance test. Eleven frikkin panels, I won't be doing that again for a while. But I was so determined to get this page up tonight. Even though it's. ... Kinda morning now. But I still feel as though I won!

When I was a kid, and I first laid hands on the Pokemon game, I thought they died when they lost. And when I found out they only fainted I thought this to be quite the soft option. What a morbid child I was. Either way, I think if most people knock a pokemon out they're trying to catch they'd say soemthing like "Damn, I've killed it!" Or maybe that's just me.

I suppose these past couple of pages show that I'm not ENTIRELY heartless... ... Not always, at any rate. The response I got from you guys on the last page was incredible, really it was. One of the reasons why I didn't want to push back this update by another day.

@Artchic8 I've heard rumors that Pokemon die in the Japanese versions of the films, but they're just rumors.

EDIT: It's a fact that a few Pokemon die in the first movie, but it was cut from the English release. Also in Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen Team Rocket kill A Pokemon and you have to fight it's ghost. This is in the English releases too.

Hm. It's a little awkward here. I don't mean to be a Poketard, but Charmanders do die once their tail flame goes out (and once the tail flame goes, they die)....so that would sort of be a dead giveaway, whether DT was dead or not. >.>

Either way, I'm happy with Atticus right now~.

pretty sure dragonthing's tail flame is still there, atty's speech bubble is just kinda covering it.

I think Atticus'll pull it off. DT's flame doesn't need to be extinguished (that would show death); it just needs to be really small, small enough to show inability to continue.

btw, there have been instances--though rare--where pokemon really have died. Anyone see the climax of the fifth movie? There's a tsunami headed straight for the city and Latios and Latias go headlong into it to stop it. The tsunami gets destroyed but then Latias loses her brother.

And yeah, Handgrenade- I was the SAAAAME way! When I was little, it made no sense that they just "fainted"? I thought they died, and the Pokemon Center just had resurrection abilities or something... And even now, when I make one faint in battle and I'm trying to catch it, I go "Crap, I killed it. ;_;"

Fainted? It would be reasonable to assume that a trainer is able to withdraw his Pokémon before it dies, so that he doesn't have to go out and catch and train another one, but against wild Pokémon, fainting doesn't make any sense. You can catch a sleeping Pokémon, so why can't you catch one that's fainted? Obviously, it must be dead, and thus useless; it's the only logical conclusion.

What to say first? Well, for one, I'm agreeing with Kahn on this one. (his expression made me laugh) Atticus protecting DT? WHOA!
Two, borders look friggin amazing!
Three, Atticus looks five years older. maybe, since he wasn't killed by the Hydro Pump, it just aged him. Like... he has a more mature look when he's proclaiming DT's dead.
Four, this is why I don't wear sweaters. You see how that thing is stretching?
I love these characters. They're so amazing. Kahn's funny, Atty actually has a heart, DT is adorable, masked person is... whatever it is... I approve of this comic so much! :D

Also, did you know that some people play pokemon with the rule that "If your pokemon dies, it's dead"? It's a self-imposed rule that shifts the game into hard mode. I can't even imagine playing like that. XD

Fun Fact! Actually, in the original manga (the start of the whole pokemon empire) pokemon did get killed. The whole process was quite bloody, but was edited to be more "age-appropriate" according to american standards when it first aired as an american cartoon.

Everyone's saying he's so nice for throwing the fight for DT, but I'm seeing it a bit differently. My interpretation is that he was intentionally waiting for DT to feint so he wouldn't have to forfeit, and just didn't think it would take this long. Yeah, he was showing some compassion when he interrupted and made DT pretend to feint, presumably because he didn't want to see DT keep getting hurt, but the fact remains he could've just forfeit and had this same outcome, minus a few injuries on DT's behalf. It's a good thing, I think. Atticus is having actual character development, not completely warming up to DT all of a sudden, but at least starting to. Perhaps out of a begrudging respect for DT's apparent fortitude and/or willingness to keep fighting a hopeless battle?

This was an awesome page and I can't wait to visually devour more of this comic.

[Edit] Also, his tail plame is right there *points*. Totally didn't go out at all. You people's blind, I'm tellin' ya'.

Naw, I never thought they died. Or rather, I *knew* they didn't. I was rather confused at first that you couldn't catch a fainted wild pokemon (although they can in the anime), but of course that would make the game much to easy.

Let's just put it down to some cosmic rule governing an already bizarre universe.

Of course, this knowledge didn't stop me from yelling 'Kill the bastard, kill it dead!) and the like during particularly frustrating battles. I haven't done so recently though - older and more sedate, I guess.

As I recall pokemon got a lot of flack from activist parents from their kids saying stuff like "dammit my pokemon died"
or "you killed my pokemon!".
Same reason they went from "___ blacked out" to "___ whited out".

They were trying to make it seem less violent so they could keep selling kids the digital crack ;)

I have no idea what the long paragraphs of texts that i see in a couple comments are about. And I have no idea why I even bothered to point it out but the last four panels had me in stitches. 1) DT's tailflame is clearly visible at the edge of the speech bubble. He's not dead, and both Masked Guy and Kahn know it. This is why Masked Guy corrected Atticus.
2) Atticus hardly knows anything about Pokémon; he doesn't even know what a charmander is, let alone what the tailflame signifies. Masked Guy also knows this, but regardless, it was a good bluff.
3) It's possible that Atticus is allowing himself to be thoroughly trounced so he can return to home with a clear conscience, or he is still attempting to trick Masked Guy into leaving despite DT being conscious.

I guess it is kind of soft, but I'd probably battle less if I killed Pokemon in the process. Anyway, I can imagine that it was brutal to dish this out, but I loved the angle of the first panel and I'd have to say it looks very nice.

Fantastic! What a great comic! I love comics set in the Pokemon world (seeing as I happen to run one myself, although not at smackjeeves-- whoops, I'm advertising!).

Needless to say, yours is definitely one of the best Pokemon comics I've seen. The characters have show such emotion, and it's funny to boot! Dragonthing is adorable. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Interesting Series I wonder who this mysterious Ball-Faced Stranger is? And what's s/he doing picking on trainers who've just started their journey?
I think it's easier to appreciate this comic if one has been a long time fan of the series. When Pokemon first came out it was the coolest thing ever, but now adays it's a bit embarassing to admit to being a fan. Atty kind of comes off like that, like he probably used to like Pokemon, but now thinks he's too old to care for it.

Am I the weird one if I see Tobi, Tykki Mikk and Yagami Raito in your releases? (Especially in the last three panels of this page they really look like Tobi from Naruto and Tykki Mikk from D.Gray-man. I'm not saying you stole those, especially since I think this is a lot more interesting than Naruto (which is still good), but it's just really similar.)
