I was out walking the dog when I was thinking over what would happen in this chapter, and when I came up with the word 'Butterfags', I actually facepalmed. But I knew I had to use it. Thad doesn't really approve of girly butterfly pokemon much.
In the first panel, it was going to have Thad throwing up the pokeballs into the air, but since he's somewhat challenged in the limb department I had to go with something else. Indeed, he only has one arm. As for what he's up to with the butterfrees and the beedrill, it'll all be explained soon. Promise.
Couple of people have asked me where Thad's from. He's English, as are more or less all of my characters, like myself. He actually has an accent rather similar to mine... But not vocabulary.
I knew it!I have to say, I have been staring at that arm for a while wondering if he simply didn't have one, or it was an odd fashion statement. I'm glad I noticed something like that for once.
While I feel that I should point out that Butterfree can cause quite a bit of havoc with their status effects, I do always prefer to catch a Beedrill (And later, a Dustox over a Beautifly).
Acutally,I'm not suprized I didn't notice. I'm pretty oblivious... Often I can't tell the gender of characters, and get into arguments with other people... Let's just say I'm pretty dependent on the dialouge... ^_^
rofl Thad just gets better and better. XD I'm still laughing from his interpretation of the Butterfree. I love it. XD
Yeah, I, like others, forgot he had one arm only. I'm sure we'll find out how he lost it. Oddly enough, what comes to mind (for whatever twisted reason) is his arm being run over by a fully loaded semi-truck. :/ It doesn't even make sense.
Wow, I didn't even notice Thad had one arm O_O I just thought it was a fashion statement... (the leather thing and longer sleeve) Am I really that dense? Guess I must be since I don't notice a lot of things LOL
I didn't notice he had one arm either, I never really pay attention
to the number of arms characters have x3
Yep, Thad has to act badass over everything. Even if he has to use butterfrees.
Cultural and Geographical issues in Mokepon.Of course Thad is English - all these characters *scream* Englishness! The thing that bothers me is, why on earth are there so many english people running about Japan? Or is pokemon Japan somehow less averse to foreigners than our japan is?
There are various English accents Thad sounds good with. A thick Scotch accent would work too (and be quite familiar to a Glasgow boy like me. He's almost exactlly who I'd expect to meet outside a pub on Friday night). It wouldn't really do so well for Trix (being siblings they likely talk very similarly, before you ask). Do not attempt to read him with a steriotypical stiff upper lip if you enjoy breathing though, sweary posh-sounding people are just to hilarious.
Bug-boy will either have a 50 tauros style good day or loose all interest in bugs forever. Changing the tone of this comic permanently if it's in the same way as that one pidgey. You know the one I mean.
@Red
I always assumed that since the world of Pokemon has fire-breathing creatures that you can catch in little balls and then carry around with you, that the world of Pokemon was an alternate world with wildly different physical laws (And therefor different countries).
I'm calling this now: Buger is going to singlehandedly ruin team rocket's plan by catching all their butterfree. Not that he's aware of their plans, or cares. He just really likes bug pokemon.
Butterfag. It's my new favorite word. I can use it in a variety of ways.
Yo, butterfags.
Got them new butterfags? Butter flavored cigarettes.
Butterfag-get that idea you got about staying alive. Cause these butterfags will burn your butterfags all up, and then you'll butter fags for the rest of your life.
And by that, I mean cigarettes. Though, it could be taken either way, I suppose. I tried to avoid the obvious orientation jokes involving butter that could come of that.
I would have laughed SO hard if he had been kicking the metapod instead of the rock...but at the same time I would have felt bad for it! Oh well, good thing you went with the rock XD
seems pretty standard, he'll use the buterfree's stun spore or confusion to disturb and agravate the beedrill causing them the go on some mass killing spree, isn't it obvious? (of course i'll feel pretty stupid if i'm wrong)
also i have a butterfree on fire red! she's a great pokemon, ironically enough though, her joker of an original trainer named her "beedrill"
Yep, the Bugcatcher is going to walk in on what's going on and totally get shot in the head by Thad. I would totally love to see Team Rocket ACTUALLY hurt someone, or even better yet, kill someone. They're SUPPOSED to be badguys for fucks sake.
THAD ONLY HAS ONE ARM?!When was this? I never noticed... huh. Someone's gotta give him a hand, he really went out on a limb for this mission. He's really shouldering the responsibility of the group, isn't he?
@Red
Much like MrGBH mentioned before me, the pokemon world is actually an alternate world since they've never made mentioned of our countries like Japan and England. They instead have their own regions like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, you get the point.
I noticed Thad was missing an arm the moment Trix held up his empty sleeve. XD And then when he pulled his gun on Atty, I was like "He's left-handed? ... Duh, one arm."
I can't believe how many people didn't realize Thad was missing an arm. I dunno, maybe I pick up on the whole empty sleeve thing because of watching Fullmetal Alchemist(limb loss was kind of a staple for that series)
I noticed it when Trix grabbed Thad's sleeve. I was like... she's grabbing sleeve, and there's no arm in it. Arm missing? wow.
Hoy, this is an awesome comic! Been really enjoying it!
I did a little pokemon comic too, a year ago. It's funny how I also decided to start with the main character being grumpy. Although mine lightened up right away :D (going for the usual nice kid in a mean world...)
Really nice job with the characters here! Some of the pages have the uneven black of the felt-tip still visible, but that's the only sign of mortality I see! :D Keep it up!
