I thought twice about the horrific scenes I coulda posted in this section and actually toned it down. Which might sound suprising I guess xD But I didn't feel right trying to squeeze a heartwrenching scene out of a bunch of dead insects... I dunno. I think it's grim enough as it is.

I actually tried something different for this page and the three after (I work in batches). I tried doing the pencilling A5 to see if it would up my speed sufficiently. Not worth it in the end I decided xD; Too many details lost. Like. ... Faces. Ah well. I'll go back to A4 after these.

Aww George don't think of them as DEAD, they just don't have any trainers to rush them to a Pokemon Center. Nothing a good Revive can't do.
It should be easier to find Pikachus now too, without running into a Caterpie every 5 steps. So Atty really accidently did a GOOD thing by getting rid of all the annoying bugs!

@Sign Seeker7: While Pokemon don't die in normal gameplay (for obvious reasons), Pokemon have been known to die in the games (Marowak in gen 1, the cemeteries in gens 1 and 3, and a few pokedex entries indicate this), don't kid yourself.

Why DT hasn't evolved Because she only actually killed that one beedril, and the panicked bug did the rest. Therefore she only got Exp for One Pokemon even though because of her actions the whole forest burnt down.

As a side note, the pikachu are probably all dead too. Mmmm, fried rat... I hear roasted rat with honey was actually a delicacy in ancient rome!

@andwhyisit: [Dry] I am very aware of that. My point was not that they couldn't die, but rather that they are capable of surviving so much punishment that just being on fire isn't as impressive.
Example: A Beedrill is capable of surviving a deity ripping apart the fabric of space. Forest fire? Hm.

EDIT: Wasn't the forest largely gone in Gen 2? Like when you go back to Kanto after finishing with the Pokemon League and you are prancing up route 2, you just run right into Pewter without passing by more than a few trees and some stray grass. I always wondered about that, and now I know why!

I would say if you toned it up i might not have felt sorry for them all..... the only bug pokemon i liked from the original's was Butterfree was a total b*tch to lvl it too. at least when you have a pikachu that can't harm Rock/Ground and had to figure out an alternative to beat the first gym leader. Mankey or Butterfree.... and I hope all the posters haven't had any troubles from Hurricane Sandy, and if so I am sorry for w/e happened. same to you Author/Artist.

And this is why I would be a bad guy in the world of pokemon. Bugs are useless, weak to my favorite element: Fire, they DARE to think they are worthy of a legendary (they are not), and are effectively useless (bug MOVES are pretty useful, bug type pokemon are a waste of space).

In the world of pokemon, my evil plan would be to erradicate (or maybe exterminate) all bug pokemon in the world... along with dark types, who are also effectively useless. Maybe not destroy Darks, just get them to learn new moves. Heeheeheeheeheehee!

@ChaosSorceror Davidicus: Bugs are the most successful creatures in terms of evolution; they survive anything. They make up over 95% of the animal kingdom and they'll be the prime candidates to survive a nuclear fallout (not just cockroaches). They were once much, much larger in the past and only shrank to their current size due to their tracheal mechanism for absorbing and distributing oxygen.

But even then, bugs can make top predators for their niche. The praying mantis was acknowledged as such by two different groups of martial artists who independently incorporated its movements into kung fu. They are great for learning since they reproduce easily, quickly, and cheaply allowing people to readily study them for body systems that may be analogous to humans and other animals. Some are also initiators of decomposition which is necessary if you don't want to live knee-high in your own crap.

That aside, it is unnecessary and capricious of you to claim that they do not deserve a Legendary Pokemon and that they are useless. There have already been several Fire Legendaires, such as Moltres and Ho-Oh. What are they doing now? Falling prey to Stealth Rock, requiring Rapid Spin support that could be provided by, oh, I don't know, maybe a Forretress? Genesect is a Bug Pokemon, and Bug is sensitive to Stealth Rock, but it still only takes neutral damage from it.

Scizor is a Bug Pokemon that's made its way into the metagame and stayed there. With numerous resistances, an immunity, weather protection, and only a single weakness that is countered by weather and supporting attacks, Scizor has excellent defensive typing. A huge base Attack and great movepool for boosing and revenging makes Scizor a top offensive threat. Technician boosted Bullet Punch, Bug Bite, and Pursuit is not to be trifled with. U-Turn also allows Scizor to be an escape master since it's easy to predict which Pokemon a foe will switch into (something that uses Fire attacks, of course) and let you place them in an unfavorable position right after they already wasted a turn switching. Heracross also suffers from a x4 weakness, but also has huge Attack and a solid Speed stat to back it up making for a super dangerous Choice Scarf user. Megahorn and Close Combat are STAB attacks that provide pretty good coverage and hit really, really hard. Heracross shows the adaptive nature of bugs with Guts, allowing it to completely turn around an unfavorable situation (such as Burn). Volcarona is a Bug that boasts arguably the most powerful boosting attack: Quiver Dance. Quiver Dance is an attack that is learned exclusively by Bug Pokemon and turns any non-threatening Special attacker into a fast, hard-hitting sweeper that even has some special bulk. Take this great move and put it on a Pokemon that has large base Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, and you get a total monster. Whereas most Fire Pokemon are crippled in the Rain, Volcarona can reverse this weakness by using Hurricane, which is especially useful in the Rain due to being a high-hitting but inaccurate attack that acts like Thunder and always hits in stormy weather. Even when you stray from the powerful Bug Pokemon, you can find underdogs that fill unique and viable niches. Take Masquerain. It has Intimidate that coupled with U-Turn can be abused to keep your opponent crippled or force switches. Rain Dance and Water Sport are both in its repertoire, allowing it to protect teammates from Fire. Also, it is one of the two Pokemon that can Baton Pass over Quiver Dance, the other being Venomoth which can use Quiver Dance and hit almost everything for neutral or Super Effective Damage due to its Tinted Lens ability and excellent movepool. Masquerain when using Quiver Dance for itself becomes somewhat bulky due to Intimidate lowering the opponent's offensive prowess on the physical side and boosting its own Sp. Defense itself. Roost is a reliable healing technique it has access to, and due to being x4 resistant to Fighting attacks, you may often be able to find opportunity to switch in on Fighting Pokemon and lower their attack before U-Turning back out.

My point? Don't insult Bugs. What you said was insulting and unsubstantiated, and though we can respect your opinion, please phrase it in the form of an opinion and not fact.

@teh_fish: thank you for supporting this. I myself am a bug trainer and breeder, and hope-to-be future bug gym leader in a small clan of mine. I find that bugs are very versatile, and even RU rated ones can play in the OU tier. My armaldo is beast. every bug you mentioned are ones I use, and they rock it.

however, i do believe that little kid who insulted Bugs does not have the mental ability to read that many words, so you should tone it down so he can understand. that's a lot of words for a comeback.

Before I start on this, I would like to point out that I'm friggin 22 years old! =.=

Since you were clearly upset by my personal opinion, teh_fish, upset enough to make a lengthy anecdote about the usefulness of bug pokemon, it is my apology to you to be unable to read or comprehend your clearly knowledgable description of bug pokemon. Trying to is making me cross-eyed. But from what I gathered, you know yer stuff, about bug-types, so all the same, sorry I apparently offended you. I would like to point out, tho, that I understand how bugs are IN REAL LIFE, I was strictly referring to in pokemon, not real life. I know the cockroach will outlive us all (odd we don't have a cockroach pokemon.. do we? I stopped after crystal, but came back for gen 4. I hated gen 3 with a passion). I watch a lot of discovery/science channel stuff so I am well aware what a real life bug is capable of.

To yer last bit. It was an opinion, and in my brain, it looked like an opinion. But still, I apologize nonetheless.

You are right tho, I don't have the mental capabilities to read essays. In my defense, I don't know that many guys who DEFEND bug types. Trust me when I say everyone I know hates bug types, I agree with them. I've been at the pokemon game a long time, and I've tried many different group combinations, and outside EV training, I have never ever seen a bug type be effectively useful. For me, an effective pokemon has a decent stat growth, good move sets, and decent pokemon abilities possible. Having it look "cool" doesn't hurt either. I know that narrows it down tons, and that probably ruined my interests in pokemon.

Were I still playing the series, or at least playing my heart Gold more, I would offer a battle between you all who defend the critters to prove me wrong. Hey, I've been wrong before, but in my experience, but types belong in boxes, collecting dust and rotting. But I've been wrong many times, so if yer right, yer right. I was merely giving my point of view. You don't like it? Fair enough.



Also, amusing troll, Ito, but my mom is more of a normal type user. Her favorite pokemon is Jigglypuff and she got into the series when we did way back when. I don't actually think she uses bugs either. I could be wrong. Hmm.
