It's MONTAGE TIME!!

I suppose this is a good chance to answer a few questions that have been popping up a lot. Let me see... Someone mentioned as to why Stein hasn't been shouting orders. Fair point. I just figured it'd be a little redundant having him shout TACKLE SLAM TACKLE TACKLE etc. Just assume he's saying it, maybe they can't hear it over the grinding of rocks and such. Or maybe they're telepathic. Stranger things have happened.

What else was there... Oh, there was the point of why is there a river in a rock gym, that pops up frequently. I'm not gunna give an outright explanation, but I figure that rock pokemon could survive quite comfortably with water in the vicinity long as they don't hafta swim in it or nothing. Also, if the rumours about Stein being raised in the wild are true, then he mighta just arranged to have the place set up a way he was comfortable with? Or maybe they're just nature nuts who knows.

I feel like there was something else I needed to cover again oh yeah NO METAL CLAW. No! None for you! Bad! Cheating! No metal claw. We're doing this old school, baby! Back in my day we didn't have none of them new fangled metal things like you youngsters have!

See y'all soon.

EDIT: DT's toned claws, that's what I also meant to mention *fixing it now* They're easier to miss than you'd think.

Wait insert montage music of our choosing? I don't think I'm ready for this level of responsibility h0ly. Still want to know if slash hax is going to play part in this. DT could live out her secret dream of being Oprah Winfrey. Instead of giving out free cars, she'll give out critical hits. That was a terrible analogy.

Gotta go with the classic "Eye of the Tiger" montage. And generally speaking, since I almost ALWAYS start off with a fire type in my pokemon games, I gotta say, if you can't incenerate them... wear them out. Good strategy DT! Sometimes you just can't win without hoovering some potions. ~(=.=)~ *shrug*

It doesn't have to be old school I don't like your "old school" reasoning for why there's no Metal Claw. Here's why:

-This can't be "old school" if you already introduced Johto Pokemon and Johto Team Rocket.

-Old school implies Red&Blue Kanto. This is clearly not Kanto time because it takes place many years after Ash. Kanto is much different than it used to be.

-The only games in which the Charmander line learns Metal Claw are Fire Red/Leaf Green. Fire Red/Leaf Green still implies "old school" as those games are "remakes" of Red/Blue.

-Based on this logic, your story could reasonably be taking place in Kanto at the same time as Diamond/Pearl or Black/White, or hell, even X/Y.

-The only thing you need to say is "Metal Claw is Fire Red/Leaf Green exclusive. This story is not within the bounds of Fire Red/Leaf Green's story.

@GoogerGeiger: Incorrect. The Team Rocket are only from Johto for the point of using sweet scent. It was only for the sake of the story that it was introduced at all, so no h0ly is right with going old school

Those were the days... I find myself remembering first gen pokemon with fondness. So straight forward with a memorizable chart of elemental types. And you could catch 'better' pokemon as you progressed (unbalanced type advantages).
Sure that makes the new stuff more 'challenging', but that doesn't mean more fun. Constantly being uncertain in battles means it feels more random and certainly less fun for me. But maybe I'm just crap at pokemon...

Gah, DT's face throughout most of these panels still unsettles me >_< But pay me no mind.
Although I'm curious as to why you're fixing the claw tones until now (assuming you do speak of the issue from 4 pages ago). Makes me wonder if it's because you were too busy to correct them or because you hadn't fully read the comments from those last pages. I don't mean to criticize, though; sorry if it sounds that way. I'm just thinking out loud (in text form...)

If you're going by the classic rules with only red/blue abilities and weaknesses/strengths, Dragonthing as a Charmeleon would have to be like 10 levels higher than Onix to even have a fair fight, let alone win. You're already cheating, H0ly. :P

If you ARE going old school in that manner, then answer me this, pretty please: In your story, are Gyarados the mighty sea serpents they were in red/blue or are they reduced to the whimpering lightning rods they are in newer games just to make the newer critters look better? I really hope it's the former because SEA SERPENTS. FUCK YEAH.

Thanks H0ly thank you for addressing things like the metal claw and river/pond. With the water explanation I'm fine with that the fact that most living things need to drink being used to explain it.

She doesn't know that @Higby: Even if this was set in any setting that Steel types or Metal Claw existed I don't think DT would know it for the reasoning of that she doesn't know she can. Atty has never used a Pokedex to look up moves or any info on anything he encounters, therefore the knowledge that she has the move is not known. The scratch and flame attack that he does know of are basic things you could guess by looking at her. I doubt that without prior knowledge to it Atticus or even DT herself would suddenly think that she could attack with a type that was not fire or normal.

@Tama: Gyarados...es(?) are actually much, much more powerful today than in the early days. Physical Water StAB. Better movepool. Dragon Dance, Moxie. RBY Gyarados was actually not that good. Many crazy useful Pokémon have 4x weaknesses, including Scizor, Volcarona and most endgame Dragons.

I love how there are people telling the author she's wrong. Guys, does h0ly really need to justify her story to you? C'mon now. I'm a massive Pokémon fan too but sit back and enjoy the story for what it is instead of pointing out 'inconsistencies' that seem to only hinder your enjoyment of the story. Want-a-charmeleon-with-metal-claw story? Write your own, or play gen 3.

No. Just no. @AssaultFlamingo: Anything with an easy to exploit super weakness that results in instant or near instant defeat isn't viable. It's just stupid. Just like the Death Star.

As far as the comic's concerned, DT holding her ground AT ALL against an Onix means she's ridiculously high level for the point in "the game" she's at, which could serve to trivialize Atticus' fights for a good while just like power leveling trivializes any rpg. This might please him because he's lazy and apathetic to the whole trainer thing, but it could also screw him in the long run. He still hasn't done any real work as a trainer and that might bite him in the ass when DT inevitably gets stomped again in an "unbeatable boss fight" scenario like the Land Shark battle. (Only a Garchomp could be so awesome that it is an entire SNL skit just by existing.)

@Tama: Scizor being the most used Pokémon in competitive nowadays, and all of the Pokémon listed on his post being among the most used by successful people must be the work of wizardry. He forgot Ferrothorn and Gliscor by the way.

There seem to be a lot of people that read this that are trying to talk about Pokémon that don't even play Pokémon at a proficient level. That's fine, you don't need to be good at something to enjoy it, I'm not gonna argue that. But if you think pokes with 4x weaknesses are bad, please take a look at WHY they have said weaknesses. The game is pretty balanced, and often these guys have the glaring weakness to offset their amazing talents. Everything in Pokémon has a counter, that's wha makes it an enjoyable game. If you have a team of guys with nothing but high-end, low-accuracy attacks, you're gonna be screwed against anybody who plays strategically. Not saying this reflects Moképon at all, but please guys; stop spouting Pokémon logic that is faulty and not at all there. The answer to a strong Pokémon isn't always "use their weakness!"

4x weaknesses and actual combat @Char: I was just making a sample group. I also left out Tyranitar, both forms of Landorus, Heatran, Toxicroak, Magnezone, Forretress, Celebi and Abomasnow. Is Swampert still OU? Coming to think of it, most of the useful Pokémon have " an easy to exploit super weakness".

If at least there was a way to avoid such effective moves when you see them coming. Some way to swap your Pokémon with another one, who can take the opponent's attacks and minimize the damage...

Ordering attacks is an overrated mechanic which doesn't really even matter a whole lot in the anime (from what i can remember..from years ago.)

It's a different story when they actually want their pokemon to perhaps do something different than they were doing, but I don't think It's necessary.

@GoogerGeiger: Charmeleon's evolution line gets Metal Claw through breeding if the father was Aron, Lairon or Aggron.
Also it can still be old school and set in the G/S/C time period. As the only differences between R/B/Y and G/S/C were that in G/S/C there were genders, Poison and Bug weren't super effective on each other, moves like Bind didn't stop the user from moving and Pokemon could hold items as well as new Pokemon, moves and types. There were no abilities yet and Charmeleon couldn't get Metal Claw And since we've seen genders and escaping from Bind it seems like this story is between R/B/Y and G/S/C.
