...? What? What're you looking at me like that for.

I was in the mood to try something different okay xD; In a bit of a slumpy art mood. So I went and did this page all digital just for a change. It was fun to do but I'm not sure it quite fits the tone of the comic... I'll be going back to normal after this xD I might use a style like this in a different comic someday. After a lil' more practice that is.

'Bob' is the best name to be shouting dramatically.

See y'all soon.

Oh nice, update on my birthday!

About the style, I like it, maybe more than the usual, but it doesn't really fit.
April 25th, 2013, 4:40 pm
I like it! xD You should consider doing page like this more often. Adds a nice dramatic effect. xD

? Could I be first? I don't see any comments...
Anyhow, I agree. This is an interesting style to try, but give a slightly edgier feel than this comic has. However, if you were ever to do a cyber-punk comic, or something like that, who knows.

I think... That this is an excellent style for this page and I really really like it. You should definitely drop this kind of style into the comic every now and again - but I think the main style of the comic should definitely stay.
April 25th, 2013, 4:48 pm
Copic markers? :D

Intentionally (or unintentionally) adds to the intensity of the situation.

Why do I feel like Bob is going to suddenly get up and smash DT like he did when she was a Charmander? Oh wait, it's H0ly, that's why XD

The style is good, but it's to intense and dramatic, fits the page but not the story. It would look a lot better on something more serious.
April 25th, 2013, 4:56 pm
Go Dragonthingy :)
April 25th, 2013, 5:07 pm
I won't comdemn Atticus for doing what he did cause while playing I've done the same by accident sometimes...

Interesting change. Not bad, though it's too big of a contrast with the usual style. Not quite sure how to describe it, but I feel like it has more shading but less detail.
April 25th, 2013, 5:24 pm
I like the other style way more. Maybe use this for a really dramatic scene?
April 25th, 2013, 5:32 pm
Cool I wish Bob death George!
April 25th, 2013, 5:37 pm
I like this. real dramatic but I have to agree. Change back to the original style but don't give this one up!! I say keep it for later use.
April 25th, 2013, 5:51 pm
I like it, but I LOVE your traditional pen and paper drawings more. :) /traditionalist

Wait, so are we sure he doesn't have more than one pokemon? Because Dragonthing doesn't look like she could take much more fighting.

I really liked the new style.
April 25th, 2013, 6:20 pm
AWW she looks so proud of herself. as for the style it looks epic but a little bit too serious for this one, just means you are going to have to come up with a whole new comic XD

April 25th, 2013, 6:25 pm
With how much he's yelling Tackle, it might as well be Struggle, the lack of moves.

The style of this page certainly makes for an intense, gritty atmosphere. Really dark. Reminds me of dead.winter comic's style. Especially on the eyes.

When suddenly...

Gym Leader STEIN used a FULL RESTORE!
razz (Guest)
April 25th, 2013, 6:47 pm
Stein: Good job Bob return
Atticus: So do I get my jumper back.
Stein: Not yet you still have to beat my next pokemon.
Atticus: What...
Stein: I choose you *insert creative name*
George: Oh my god its a Golem!
Atticus: Am I really never going get my jumper back?
April 25th, 2013, 7:01 pm
this is a cool style.

I like it. I love seeing artists experiment in their comics.

I actually quite like this style. It's appropriate for the scene the less defined lines give the impression that this scene was fast, intense, and dangerous.

Though really that's mostly because it's different from the normal style you use. So in that sense it is a definite departure of the comic's typical tone. Aside from the dramatics in general everything here feels a little more three dimensional. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of it. Ultimately, of course, it's up to you so draw what you feel is best/just really want to draw at the moment.

just... wow :o
April 25th, 2013, 8:20 pm
I dunno about this style for this comic. Looks a little... clumpy. Or... something. I dunno it feels off.
I rather liked the pencil'd style.
Also, I've never known an onyx to take so long to go down, but then, I know better than to use FIRE MOVES on it.

First playthrough is always the hardest, Atticus!
April 25th, 2013, 9:02 pm
I think this particular style makes it seem more dramatic. It wouldn't suit the regular tone of the comic but for a finishing move it's perfect.
April 25th, 2013, 10:03 pm
This style is perfect for moments like these.

The art style you used today feels better for darker, more dramatic moments. It's very good but I don't think it goes well with a more comedic comic like this one. Very good comic!

As much as I love this new art style (and I really do love it) it's a bit too dramatic and dark for this comic. But WHOO GO DT!!!
April 25th, 2013, 11:06 pm
I like what DT's possibly thinking in the last panel...
April 25th, 2013, 11:26 pm
I have seen some really cool uses of this and similar styles (Twilight Monk, Wake up Deadman, and samarai gengi... although these all tend towards the art end of the art vs. story spectrum). That said, I agree that it's probably not the best fit for this comic.
discrider (Guest)
April 26th, 2013, 12:27 am
New page looks okay, but it lacks the definition and solid shading of your previous pages.

Maybe only use when DT's using lots of flame attacks because charcoal?

Ooh, or only for the fire gym! Different style on entering each gym! XP

Awesome Okay, I actually prefer the art this way.
Been reading since like 10 pages in, this comic is awesome.
April 26th, 2013, 1:01 am
Whoa Whoa cool page. Great well, everything.
April 26th, 2013, 1:06 am
wow! now this is a surprise :D it does look more dramatic and darker. maybe the style would fit a serious comic (H0lyhandgrenade goes NOIR!? ^.~)

Now... What's his next pokemon? Surely he doesn't just have the Onyx :P

You probably won't get this reference, but... Game Over. The User Wins.
April 26th, 2013, 4:41 am
Bob is down! next is a geodude.
April 26th, 2013, 4:49 am
I definitely prefer the usual style to this one. Your normal style is clean, fun, and cartoony, and fits the world of Pokemon much better than the art on this page.
April 26th, 2013, 5:00 am
DT's expression in the last panel made me smile. You caught her little charmeleon emotions very well. Good job DT! Way to go!

April 26th, 2013, 5:53 am
This... Is... EPIC!!! Yes, all of my yes to this style. It makes it all the better for me and I would highly recommend continuing it as you see fit. It would be great for epic moments, and did I mention it's epic?
April 26th, 2013, 7:00 am
Digital you say? Kinda reminds me of a cleaned up oil pastel or charcoal drawing. Not sure about action scenes, but this seems really appropriate for depicting flash backs. Or perhaps the post battle scenes of big fights where it focuses on the trainers surveying the aftermath. You know, pages where a lot of strong emotions has to be condensed to a few panels and time takes on a more intangible quality (i.e. cheering/crying scenes after the big battle is won/lost). Definitely good for chapter ending scenes with the characters walking off into the sunset and such, or dramatically entering the gym for a final showdown.

Maybe I'm just being greedy, but I also would've liked those zoomed out shots of DT and Bob staring down each other at the end to have taken up the full width of the page for added emphasis and to have gone on for more than two panels to lengthen the tension (e.g. if this were a printed comic then the first five panels would make up the left page and the zoomed out shadowy panels would take up the majority of the right). To me, the new art style really does a good job of depicting those standoff panels.

Stein looks rather odd here. On another note, in a game battle, DT would be dead many times over.
April 26th, 2013, 9:11 am
Aww yeah kill that stone thing! xD
About the style, I do like it. But I think it might sooth a more dramatic story. Or you could do it for fun if you have some dramatic parts in the story.
So for short, I like it, but it doesn't fit the comic :P Just like you said XD
April 26th, 2013, 10:09 am
I really dig this digital look. It is a pleasant changeup :) Also super easy to colour if you are bored on a Friday afternoon.
April 26th, 2013, 4:48 pm
it looks really cool, but its too dark for the style of this comic.
Caio (Guest)
April 26th, 2013, 5:45 pm
It doesn't really fit the style of the comic, so I wouldn't do this often if I were you, but this style might look good for dramatic moments, like this one. Good job!

@Sol: Reboot!

Like the style. I think it's a bit jarring for an abrupt switch, but it doesn't look bad. If ye do another comic, this would be most totally fine to use as a style, I'd say.

@Sol: reboot... nice...
@H0ly: been reading for a while now, nice art, nice story, nice characters...

April 27th, 2013, 7:36 am
Shade, shade, SHADE!
April 27th, 2013, 10:39 am
And now for something completely different. I always read that sentence in John Cleese's voice. Lol! Monty Python, good times.

Oh and about the change. I love it, but I agree with most everyone else, its good for dramatic moments or another comic.
Someguy (Guest)
April 27th, 2013, 10:52 am
Insert copypaste of everyone else saying the style is good for dramatic events when used sparingly but not for the overall comic here.
April 27th, 2013, 3:29 pm
@pringerpx: Digital
April 27th, 2013, 7:33 pm
Oh my I think I might be in love with the way this page looks. Be still my beating heart. I suppose asking for a tutorial on how you managed to come up with this is unlikely? (Yes I know it's digital I could probably guess) I only do digital work and I've never seen let alone done anything like this.

Eh, it's nice, but so's the other art. But it's a lot darker and more dramatic. Probably should only be used in this comic for comedic effect.
April 29th, 2013, 3:51 pm
I really like this style. Maybe save this especially for battles? It makes everything look so dramatic. <3
May 3rd, 2013, 11:56 am
The change defiantly went with the dramatics of the page.
Aww that smile at the end, that's pride right there :D
