Happy extra update everyone! And thanks for the birthday wishes xD Very nice of you all.

Ahh remembering the old days, where everyone had to fight and train... When exp share sucked and wasn't given to you two minutes into the game.

See y'all soon.

Yeah, now we just have exp shares that make our levels skyrocket. I swear there's no challenge in the games now.

...I feel old.

Yeah... while I do appreciate that EXP Share makes things a whole lot less unnecessarily grindy in the new games, I do think that it also took out a lot of the challenge of the game, and (unfortunately) doesn't make you have to learn all of your teams strengths and weaknesses while developing them :/
December 11th, 2013, 6:56 pm
At least we have Super Training now for controlling our EVs if we so desire. That was really handy, especially for when you are quickly raising something that just hatched and don't want to mess up its build.

@Master_72: Eyup, I was very disappointed with how easy Gen VI is. Even the "strongest" trainers of Flare are so very easy to beat with a mediocre team.
December 11th, 2013, 7:03 pm
There is such a thing as turning the EXP share off.

I love how you draw Charmeleon XD Dragonthing is the best. Sorry it's a day late but happy birthday :P

Cue training montage theme music.
December 11th, 2013, 7:54 pm
@Djoing: I switched mine off right after getting it. And never switched it back on. There's no use for such a defective thing (in the new generation).
January 8th, 2015, 4:40 pm
@Quinis: Defective? The original wasn't the Exp. Share. It was the Exp. All and functioned exactly as the new one does

At least the new Exp. Share is a throwback to the original. Just scaled stupidly high now.
December 11th, 2013, 10:49 pm
D'awww DT & Rat having a moment.
December 11th, 2013, 11:20 pm
I havent turned the EXP share on XD. I dont want it to mess with SWEAT AND TEARS AND POKEMON WORKING FOR ITS LEVELS. *cracks whips*
December 12th, 2013, 12:28 am
Uh-oh, gonna have a gush moment... D'awwww. Lookit da nuzzling Dragonthing, its almost like she's taking care of her young... Hnnnngh.

AHEM! Okay, cynical common sense has returned. I just have to NOT look at this page, or more specifically, panel 3, until the next update.
December 12th, 2013, 1:42 am
I love how many people complain about the new EXP Share, even though it's turned off from the beginning, and you have to manually turn it on once you get it after the first gym...and can turn it off at any time...

For me? EXP Share made the game playable. I've always hated grinding, and as I use the same team almost all the time, I don't need to "learn the strengths and weaknesses" of my team. I already know them. So, yeah, 10+ hours saved because I didn't have to grind? I'm fine with that. I hate grinding.

That it bad I kinda ship these two after this page? I mean...they're so cute together! Those three panels with DT helping Rat up and then continuing on... -squeals- it's just so cute!

If only I could send my pokemon out into the field while I did whatever else for my grinding. Oh the life that'd be...
December 12th, 2013, 4:35 am
I love how everyone is complaining about Exp Share in the new game, saying "oh, we didn't have that in Red and Blue" when yes, yes we did. It was the Exp All back then and it did the same thing the new Exp Share does, giving Exp to all party members, though granted it didn't give as much.

I love how everybody is complaining it makes the games 'too easy'. Pretty sure the only reason the older games were 'hard' is because we were dumb kids at the time, stumbling our way through the game with only a passing idea (at best) of how the mechanics worked.

I mean, it was an era when the ideal Charizard had Ember/Flamethrower/Fire Spin/Fire Blast because they were all fire moves therefore they were the best moves for a Charizard, because it breathes fire.

oh yeah also this page is SUPER ADORABLE

I just hope he knows Pikachu will stay a Pikachu no matter how much he trains.
Unless he accidentally touches a Thunderstone. :3

Have a great new year!

Charizard I know that this is a long way off in the story, but I am gonna ask anyway.
I really like how you took some creative liberty when Dragonthing evolved into Charmeleon, making her more raptor-like. Is there any chance that when she evolves she won't be short and fat like Ash's Charizard? I am really looking forward to sleeker more feminine design, and especially one that is taller than 5'7". The pokedex and anime really make Charizard out to be very underwhelming.

@Annie While I do agree with you to an extent, there is a lot in the newer games that is frankly babying the players.
A few examples:
Poison - in the original games a poisoned Pokémon was a reason to make a mad dash for the Pokémon Center. If you didn't have an antidote your Pokémon would take damage every few step and eventually faint. As of Gen 5 Pokémon no longer fain from poison outside battle. And worse, as of Gen 6 they don't even take damage.
Training - People complained a lot about the Exp. Share in Gen 6, I see where they are coming from but it is toggleable so I don't care to much. What does bother me though, is the fact that they have been shoving the Lucky Egg down our throat as part of the early story lately. The Lucky Egg used to be a 5% drop on one of the rarest Pokémon in the game and now its free.
The Trainers - there are 3 Trainers in the entire X/Y game that have 6 Pokémon. The Champion, your rival (post Champion), and a dude with 6 Magikarps. There is literally not a single character in the game that will pose a threat to even the most incompetent of players.
Endgame - First and foremost, The main story places you about 10 levels higher then the Pokémon League. The trainers who are supposed to exemplify what it is to be a powerful trainer obviously aren't, even if they did bring 6 Pokémon, which they don't, they still wouldn't stand a chance. You are told ahead of time what to prepare for, you choose your order, and your opponents are intentionally limited. To top things off, there is no endgame training area to grind out those last 25 levels, and for the first time in the franchise the Pokémon League doesn't scale in postgame.

I wish I could say that the games just seem easier because I am older and more skilled. But I can't because Nintendo/Gamefreak has literally made the game far easier than their previous titles.

I personally prefer both. I love grinding for the first long batch of levels then switch exp share on along with lucky egg just to get something quick if I'd need it for breeding pokemon for egg moves.

I really don't see why people are complaining about such things because, you don't have to use the exp share nor the lucky egg since you have to equip them manually anyway. Though I do agree with Rob that the fact that they're making the game a tad too easy is babying the new players since they haven't had the experience of the old games.

Still though, I really love x and y for the new super training since it makes it a whole lot easier to EV train a pokemon you don't wanna mess up as stated in the above.

@Rob: I agree, especially with your points on the trainers and poison, however It's not the first time that the league doesn't scale, gen 1 didn't nor did gen 2 i believe. Can't remember about gen 3 but gen 4 is when they implemented that. not 100% on that though so don't crucify me :)

Rom hacks FTW @Rob: This kind of drop in difficulty level is why I love hacks like Pure White/Pitch Black. If you haven't checked it out you should. Even some of the dialougue is changed and it makes the whole game faaar more engaging.

I've actually had to turn off the exp. share in my pokemon Y because they got way too high and nearly wouldn't listen to me
December 12th, 2013, 1:08 pm
@littlekitsune: Heh! That happened to me too! I didn't use it as much in my play through of Y, but when I started X I wanted to spend more money on clothes (don't ask), so was battling in the battle chateau a lot, with exp share switched on ... With only 1 badge, it wasn't very long before I had a bulging purse and 4 mons that wouldn't listen half the time. LOL
December 12th, 2013, 2:26 pm
Belated happy birthday.

I really hope Rat keeps that bandage on its ear permanently; it's kind of a character trait now, and I really like it.
December 12th, 2013, 10:41 pm
Late Happy Birthday!
I love your comic. The mons are just so cute, and Atticus is such a funny trainer!

Gen I had an XP share? Blast, so much wasted time! Had pokemon yellow and would stick the pikachu in the box as soon as I could (checked back on its prison fairly regularly though for the evil laughs).

EXP Share I turned mine off almost immediately in X, and only used it in the most extreme cases of pre-gym grinding when I felt extremely lazy. I'd heard from a few people already that the EXP share if left on pretty much makes you 10+ level above even the champion's team.

I was nuzlocking that crap blind, too. The challenge was indeed there.

@Annie: This is why people tend to do things like nuzlocke challenges now. Adds in that artificial challenge to spice it up.
