Pity the Fool. The rebound on that girl, though. Seriously.
The way she says all of that makes her sound pretentious, egotistical and demoralizing.
I kind of think she doesn't necessarily mean to do all of that, but it seems more like she doesn't know how to help friends out when they're actually legitimate gangsters.
I think at this point it's just one of those unspoken agreements that the Oddish is a professional dancer. Kahn taught her well. Kahn's just going to be a ballroom dancer now. Sorry.
As for her name, I'm pretty sure she won't have a name unless George supplies it.
Also, just for clarification, the Oddish is female. Kahn's addressed her as such already. HOO-HOO.
It just occurred to me that Atty can't actually name that oddish since she was given to him and she has to stay with whatever name Khan give her :I or can he? Are ALL of the pokémon game rules applied?
@Mio_Chouseki: perhaps when the pokemon are put in the pokeballs all of them are chipped with their name, and you can only legally change them if you caught them? Maybe naming is the true form of ownership in the pokeworld? XD
I can't even... how can anybody be mad ever seeing that oddish? Seriously, show this oddish to all the world leaders. World peace is bound to happen after seeing this. In fact, surround it with some adorable puppies and kittens and we're set.
@Mio_Chouseki: That's appropriate. Whatever lewd thing Kahn named his pokémon (because in my head he's just one of those guys at heart) should probably be what the Oddish keeps as her name.
However, Kahn never did tell Atticus her name. So it's still likely that he or George can still appropriate the Oddish with a new name. It's technically as if he stole it because it wasn't through a sanctioned trading system, so I wouldn't be aware of how the rules work around that.
Naming rulesfirst off, it's already established that "dragonthing" is too long by game standards...so we already know the game rules are not so strictly applied, there's plenty of artistic leeway :3
second, in terms of catching and naming, you can't rename pokemon that were TRADED, but pokemon that are GIVEN to you are always available for name changes...Kahn totally gave the oddish to Atty, so Atty can name it anything even in adherence to the game rules ^_^
can't wait to hear its name...and the magikarp's name, too...maybe they'll never have name? :O maybe Atty will just be content with Dragonthing and displosable Rat forever....only time will tell O_O
@Wyld: I don't believe there is ever a time in any of the games that states that Pokémon given to you are able to be renamed. So it's possible that it would fall under the category of "traded". Even if it wasn't necessarily a trade. I believe the OT number was what dictated whether or not you could rename a Pokémon. If it didn't match your own, then it wasn't renameable.
I believe that the comic wouldn't adhere strictly to game rules in terms of naming Pokémon, because under normal circumstances a person should be able to call something whatever he or she wishes.
@AFeralFurry: Oh right. Pokémon you just suddenly come across. Or Pokémon that people can't care for whatsoever and pawn off on you. Like the Eevee you get from Bill in the 2nd Gen games... I didn't even consider those.
@ZiliathI think she might have used "stood" for the fact that he was put there to stand by the rockets and all they do is stand in the same place. Maybe, if that makes any sense...
Speech@Ziliath: Even though he's been drawn and lettered by a Pommie I'd be very surprised to discover that a rebel like Atty is perfectly articulate or eloquent. Personally I think the odd mistake here and there makes him more human.
It's actually correct deal with it please HOO-HOO.@Ziliath: He has been stood at that bridge by the Rockets. When he says "stood", that means that he's talking about having been stationed there. "Stood" is a viable word to use in this case. So when you're reading it, use that to deduce the meaning. "You don't know how many hours I've been stood (stationed) here".
Also, using the word "standing" there would be a legitimate option, but I feel that using that instead of the word "stood" would take away from the fact that he's not standing there of his own will. In this context, "standing" isn't past tense, though. In context, that word would fall under the category of "Present Perfect Progressive Tense", because it would end up looking like "I have been standing".
@Doutonbori Robo: Actually in pokemon B2 and W2 (So I'm not sure how this holds up in Red and Blue, though technically your starter is always given to you) in Castelia City someone gives you an Eevee, which I renamed Eievui. It just takes the name rater, I think.
Speaking of which, will Atty ever meet someone so weird as the name rater?
@Releventasaurus: You crazy child-beasts with your updated gadgets and whatnot. I've never dealt with Black (2) or White (2), or anything above that. I feel sad about it. In any case, before that point there has not been a time where a Pokémon given to you that was already named could be named again. I don't think the discussion matters anymore however, considering that the comic isn't strictly the game.
The only thing I use my right hand for personally is a laptop touchpad, but it's interesting to me that lefties like myself are just used to doing things right-handed.
@Doutonbori Robo: It's a good thing that most of this stuff isn't in the game, too!
It would kinda put a damper on things if you were just taking a relaxing stroll in Mount Moon and a Clefairy came along...
BOOM
@larei: That almost seems like it comes off as an insult. Her hand-lettering is wonderfully done and talented by far. It's very legible, even in small print.
I feel like George's smaller text speech bubble in the panel when she's walking off is a mirror of Atty's own thoughts. Deep down he's not an ass, he can see George needs someone right now, at least for a little while.
