*insert hilarious flashback to all the abuse Dragonthing has taken here*
October 9th, 2015, 4:49 pm
Having pokemon fend for themselves must make them super durable.
October 9th, 2015, 5:36 pm
If she can take this much damage, how has she not evolved yet?
October 10th, 2015, 7:15 pm
@Guest: This is drawn, not game, levels don't mean jack. =D

@Guest: Is it really a lot of damage, though? Seems to me that she's just being flung around and smacked a bit with the tail, no real damaging attacks. She's more of a pesky flea than an actual threat to Blaize.

Even so, from a gameplay perspective, to solely use your starter would have them evolve to their final form before you'd even reached Vermillion if you actually fight all the trainer along the way. Atty has been avoiding battles, so there's that. Not saying the game mechanics actually apply to this comic, just an interesting fact.

Oh now I get the strategy, there going to stall until Blaize runs out of attacks and has to resort to struggle.

Anyone think Blaize is going to turn to Laika and shoot her a look that says" Can I stop now? I mean, this is starting to get kinda sad."

@Unnessecary: Didn't he return her to the pokeball before she could take a bite? (Ch.3 P.46)

Love the cameo you put in there Holy ;D
October 9th, 2015, 8:10 pm
As Atty's lawyer I do not advise him to answer that question.
October 9th, 2015, 9:32 pm
@DeathReborn(LOD): You mean, "As Atty's lawyer, I'd advise him not to answer that question?"

Very different meaning otherwise.
Wording is very important in law, lol.

I don't post often, but I want to express my love for this comic, you are a rolemodel for me.
Nice one-sided fight, the chemistry between Atty and Dragonthing has gotten really interesting, I look forward to them finding a solution to this slight predicament!

Anyone seen Pokemon Rusty on Dorkly? The line remind me of that.

"God, it evolved from pure happiness the moment I touched it. What did you DO to this thing?"
October 10th, 2015, 6:23 pm
Evolve!!! You know what would be great? If DT suddenly evolved and defeated Blaze! I hope that happens!

Eevee (Guest)
October 11th, 2015, 5:32 pm
@Morgan: No, Kirst's question is entirely reasonable. @Morgan: Imagine this is a dog-fight. (Let's not pretend Pokemon is anything but forcing animals into fighting each other against their will.) And you see a dog that gets punched and kicked and mauled and hurt... and the dog just shrugs it off and goes on with business as usual.

Would you get suspicious that the dog is used to getting punched and kicked and mauled and hurt?
Morgan (Guest)
October 14th, 2015, 8:28 pm
@Eevee: That ignores the context that's been established, to wit: Kirst is an obnoxious douchenozzle. His question has to be considered relative to his attitude, his demeanor, and his unreasonable behavior since he's appeared. If this panel were his only appearance (or the first time he'd spoken), or if he had a different personality, then it would be a fair question. As it is, it just comes across to me as one more way of being a condescending jerk toward Atty. That is to say, he's much less concerned that DT might actually have been abused than he is with calling Atticus a bad trainer.
October 11th, 2015, 8:36 pm
It's an understandable thing what Kirk said, but at the same time... We have a fully evolved Pokemon inflicting damage on Dragonthing to the point where Kirk has to bring up that she's able to endure the hits fairly well. Shouldn't that otherwise indicate that Blaize is out of Dragonthing's league in terms of strength?

Instead of pointing out the unfair disadvantage of this battle, he's implying Atty has possibly abused his Charmeleon. It's clear Laika and Kirk would also be levels ahead of Atty and they intended to humiliate him with their own powers as experienced gym leaders. Kirk throws in an insult whenever he gets the chance, meanwhile looking the other way. A bully making their victim out to be the bully.

I could very well be reading it wrong and Kirk is genuinely concerned over Dragonthing rather than belittling Atty... This is just my opinion of the context on what he said on this page.

@Guest: Shouldn't Atty be taking some responsibility here? He's shown a general disregard for the health all his pokémon so far. That stunt at the Cerulean Gym still hinged on Dragonthing taking a one-sided beating. He still has the option to swallow his pride, forfeit the match and act like a trainer for once in his bone-idle life
October 12th, 2015, 10:57 am
Laika and Kirk are awful people
October 13th, 2015, 12:13 am
@Sagan: True, Atty hasn't been the most promising trainer so far. You bring up a good point in concern of the other members and their health, too.

My post was mainly focused on Kirk questioning Atty's overall credibility as a Pokemon Trainer, which does sound harsh but considering the interaction they've had thus far (Kirk's brash nature) it just came off as him coming off as the kind of person that looks for any kind of weakness and throws it in your face like a jerk, but Eevee has a good point. I think in a way I was trying to give voice to Morgan's post, without actually disagreeing with Eevee. Heh.

Judging by the next page, Atty seems... reluctant now. He might just end up swallowing his pride after all and will call off the battle for Dragonthing's sake as you've mentioned. Or maybe the comic will mirror the anime and Dragonthing ends up defeating Blaize. We'll see.

(Guessing I'm the guest you were directing your post to, considering I was the only one without a name... if not, my bad. This is my second post here total so I'm pretty new. Sorry for the somewhat long reply.)
October 16th, 2015, 7:22 am
I didn't jump to "have you been abusing your pokemon?", I immediately thought: "Dang your pokemon has high defense EVs!"

It seemed totally logical at the time. XD
