See y'all soon.

What's America?
well... you're better off not knowing.
September 9th, 2016, 6:46 pm
America? Never heard of it. Is that close to Unova?

@Guest: nice reference.
September 9th, 2016, 7:13 pm
32! What does the gym leader have against the states that were admitted on or after February 14, 1859?? Oregon through Hawaii are just as much states as Delaware through Minnesota!

For real, I was always confused as to where Kanto is if it's not really Japan but America is somehow a place.

@NatsFan: Kanto is definitely in Japan, it's just that Pokemon Japan isn't a 1:1 parallel for real Japan.

@NatsFan: Probably like how Kalos region (of X and Y) is sorta France, but not really.

I doubt that the pokemon world creators really thought it through at the time but they could easily now go back and make a region that's sorta America like ... Amera... or something xD
September 11th, 2016, 9:51 pm
Yeah she'd fit right in. I can envision the flag-encrusted pickup truck she'd drive and everything.

The question on everyone's minds.
September 16th, 2016, 5:33 pm
It's a terrible fictional country where people don't own Pokémon.

So absurd.
Phoena (Guest)

The Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions are based off of real regions within Japan. Kanto even got its name from the real region upon which it's based. On the other hand, Unova is apparently based off of New York and such, while Kalos is based on parts of France. Alola will of course be based off of Hawaii.
That said, it's still pretty odd that they call Lt. Surge the "Lightning American," since as far as I know there are no other references made to America...
Someone (Guest)
September 16th, 2016, 7:03 pm
@Phoena: Maybe "American" means something in the Pokemon world beyond the country.

Like how one word means something in some other language if it isn't your own.
September 16th, 2016, 6:33 pm
Where's America? In Japan.
Where they speak plain 'ol Japanglish. And dreams only come true some of the time.
Zant (Guest)

America doesn't exist in the world of Pokemon. Lt. Surge has just become a tad unhinged after returning from the war.

True story.

@Zant: "The war." Don't ask which war. It will only upset him.

Well, except for Guam. They have their own gym.

Is it just me or does that badge look a lot like the inside of a garbage can?

America. Where Rice Balls are Jelly Donuts!

i think it's some magical place where pokemon are replaced with guns

Everyone here is talking about where America fits in the pokeon world, whereas I'm more impressed that the badge up for grabs actually looks legit. I mean the Rock badge was just a pebble with a safety pin stuck to it (well the water badge was ok, but it was given via Seal and was all slobbery ewww)
September 17th, 2016, 3:34 am
Flag, no flag I think there's a small consistency error between this page and page 4 of the same chapter.
Visitor (Guest)
September 17th, 2016, 3:43 pm
@Ambjoorn: Page 4's shot was cropped, so there could have still been a flag above the door.

@Ambjoorn: Obviously the flag unfurled itself the moment Surge, Jr. showed up

lmao i think america is actually a place within the pokemon universe (they just never specifically reference it beyond gen 1 i think) -- because the spin-off games for the gamecube, y'know with orre and all that, are apparently also supposed to be based in the US, in arizona if i recall correctly. so far, as far as i know, unova is supposed to be in new york and orre is in arizona, but these are the only two regions that are set in the US so far. still interesting to think about. xD
September 17th, 2016, 7:44 am
America must be the name of her Pet or her Family Tree
Nice touch that you made it a Medal

If she was really American her "honour" should be "honor";) Just trying to keep it authentic.
Drakey (Guest)
September 17th, 2016, 6:30 pm
@Serebii818: Why? That's not even an accent thing. Cultural spelling differences are for the author, not the character. That's like insisting a Japanese character should speak in kanji. The missing "U" makes no difference to pronunciation, and even if it did, transcribing accents is very far from necessary, whatever J.K. Rowling might tell you.

Must be a place where people really like trash.
September 17th, 2016, 9:14 am
Don't they teach Geography in the Pokemon universe???

Does America even exist in the Pokemon world?
And... jeeze, I get she's from America but... yeesh.

Oh my stars! Really, I didn't think to count 'em until you mentioned it, but since no one in-world would know what they mean anyway, who cares that there are only 32.

Maybe the gym leader made it herself based on tales she heard from her father and forgot to ask him what the stars really represent....yeah, we can go with that :D in which case, she did sew the right amount of stripes. Not that anyone in-world would appreciate her flag making efforts hehehe

America is the taste of those pancakes from that one ad

My headcanon is that Unova is IN America, it's just a state, not a full-blown country. Just as Kanto, Johnto ect are all places within Japan.

in the english version of the original red/blue/yellow the logs in cinnabar mansion describe an expedition to south america directly. So the continent at least has been in pokemon from the start
September 17th, 2016, 11:48 pm
@For the record: Yeah, but those games were supposed to take part in Actual Kanto, Actual Japan. That's been retconned.
September 18th, 2016, 12:37 am
well If I remember correctly America defiantly exists in the Pokémon world. several pokedex entry's mention it, and if you remember Mew was found in south America.
September 18th, 2016, 1:04 pm
The Flag Well the flag would be accurate if Minnesota was the latest state added.

The US flag sure is a bitch to draw with it's nine horizontal rows, alternating between six and five stars, let alone with it's thirteen stripes...

America's that place where Mew was found somewhere in its southern half. ;P
