Incidentally, pillow shading is when you just do shading coming from every line, regardless of light source.

I just got hit by a wave of nostalgia and pity for Atty. Not sure why this particular page caused this, but it was probably those eyes.

Looks like George brought along a Pidgey, a Spearow, a Nidoran (not sure if male or female), a Ratatta, a Drowzee and a Caterpie. All super common stuff. They're probably all like level 10, too. And this is her "very best" team?

Atty's Triggered by the Pillow Shading. An ultra Realistic High level artist like him is screaming internally right now. (edit) His eyes look glazed over and mentally shut down. I wonder if he's able to cope with this being displayed as fine art or if he'll truly snap from this after the day he's had. (edited to explain why I used the term that I did. I stand by my usage of it. The severity of why I used it was unclear and I apologize if you felt I was making light of the term. @SoulRaider116)

@Jedipikachu9009:

I tried to fight my urge to say anything...I don't want to be that 'special snowflake' really. As someone living with a diagnosis, I just have to say something though.

The use of triggered as slang for annoyed, angered, irritated, (and similar things) that's become common lately is such a pet peeve for me.

I'm a diagnosed depressive, and as one of the people who struggle with mental illness, it's hard enough to be taken seriously. We need the concept of a trigger to be recognized as the ordeal it really is.

When I face one of my triggers I can have an extreme reaction from shutting down due to anxiety and fear, to becoming suicidal. And I'm actually very mild compared to many others.

I know I seem overly sensitive. I've been dealing comments of that nature for my whole life. I don't necessarily expect this to be read and cause an epiphany.

If it causes even one person to be more thoughtful about what a trigger can be on a medical level, though, then that's good enough.

@SoulRaider116: So the word "trigger" triggers you?

@Guest: I new this comment was coming. The word triggered used so casually upsets me. It is not a trigger.

@SoulRaider116: This bothers me too. I don't suffer from such things but I know that it's making light of people facing genuine problems day to day. A lot of people genuinely don't know of course and don't mean harm by it, but either way it's high time for this trend to die out.

@SoulRaider116: I work in security, and I recently responded to someone who was triggered into a panic attack. And someone watching actually made a "triggered" joke while pointing and laughing at the person who was panicking.

I wanted to scream.

@Lenn:

When I start a downward spiral, trains are a trigger (full size, not model or toy ones). It sounds strange, but hearing them or seeing them in person or on TV and film can send me into a panic. There are valid reasons for this that others don't get.

I was with a group of fellow people with varying mental health diagnoses watch "A River Runs Through It," and I hadn't ever seen it before...there's a particular scene with a car, and train tracks, and a tunnel...

I was full on panic attack, thinking for sure the car was gonna get smashed to bits (death by train is the more specific cause of the trigger). My eyes are closed, can't catch my breath, ears covered but I can still hear everything.

And the guy next to me starts going off about how awesome trains are, and why should they be triggering, and they are a happy memory. He had a mental illness too, which makes it worse than someone else going off like that.

I ended up screaming the F-bomb at him...I'm not a swearer in general.

I honestly don't remember what happened after that...or how I calmed down...I think my boyfriend was there...he probably helped...

I have read your comment. I'm not entirely sure how I was supposed to respond to this or even if I was supposed to respond at all. I feel like, since I decided to respond, I shall do so in two different ways. One as the nice guy my Christian parents raised me to be and another as the asshole I truly am.

Nice Guy:
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or be insensitive towards a group of people with a real life illness. When I saw this part of the comic, this was the first thing to come to mind and I commented on it. I apologize again for my insensitive nature and for what the asshole in me is about to say.

Asshole:
Honestly, I am just some asshole using and overused meme even I think is overstaying it's welcome. As much as I am aware of the mental illness, I'm not going stop because it offends some people I don't even know. If I do stop making a joke, it will be because, as I said, it overstayed its welcome.

Almost every joke is offensive to SOMEONE, no matter how clean it may seem. I'm not going to apologize for making the joke, but I will apologize for offending you.

"That’s what you always have to think about when you’re writing jokes, is sort of, 'Where is the line?' And you don’t want to cross it, but you want to go near it. And, you know, it’s subjective, sort of, where the line is, and that’s where it becomes complicated."
-Mike Birbiglia

As I side note, this is literally my second comment on a smack Jeeves comic, the first being that TRIGGERED comment. To think that I went from stupid meme to long ass speech defending my use of it is kinda funny itself.

I appreciate that you took the time to respond. It at least let's me know you read my comments and took time to think about them.

And I appreciate that you apologize for offending me, even if you don't apologize for the post. I promise I'm not a person who is easily offended.

If people could differentiate between a mental health trigger and the seriousness of it, and the idea of someone getting generally upset using the term, your comment wouldn't have bothered me at all.

You are right, people will find a reason to be offended over anything. And it gets ridiculous sometimes.

@SoulRaider116: You're absolutely right in bringing this up. The slang use of the word triggered is quite offensive and demonstrates either a lack of understand or a lack of compassion, or both, for those who have real triggers. Don't feel bad for standing up for what's right, and don't apologize for being you.

@UnfriendlyRegionalSpiderman: Is it weird that I loved this whole string of dialogue? Too often someone is called out, and instead of being apologetic, they get defensive and angry. You guys are all awesome. The comments for this comic always tend to be pretty understanding and kind.

...And because of the rest of the comments on this thread, I can't get the Ferris Bueller song out of my head. Some deep thoughts, this strange Weepinbell picture stirs up... or maybe Atty just really needs to get some sleep.

Is he going to rip into whomever drew that and get his own back? Or he going to follow this brewing 'downward spiral' (as I like to call a good Depress sesh) and this be the last straw before he flips his shizzle or something. I find it hard to predict what you or Atty is gonna do XD
