I couldn't draw George being serious for long. It just implodes in on itself.

Ah'll sithee later.

I dunno why, but it doesn't quite look like George in the serious face pannel.

I mean, it does look like her, but at the same time, she doesn't quite look the same as she does in pannel four? Am I just crazy?

It's the eyes... they seem different somehow.

Wow, acting must be really hard if she could only break character for like a few seconds at most. Looks like my dreams of making it to broadway just aren't meant to be, s'too hard. :(

@H0lyhandgrenade: No, no, she's just luring them in! She'll trap them in the next few pages~

Do you mind technical questions, H0ly? I'm wondering about a couple of the particular panel structures/frameworks. I've come to appreciate the borderless panels, and here it works wonderfully with George's serious face and the hazy background, like a breath before the battle. (Which works even better when the rug's pulled out with her following lack of seriousness!) But I'm curious about the last panel, for lack of a better term, the extended panel. I've seen it many times (and it works well), but why extend it all the way to the bottom of the page? I guess, more specifically, my question is: Is there a technical reason, or just aesthetic? If technical, is that to give a better sense of the over-the-shoulder without "cutting off" the view's illusion or to keep the last space bubble from getting cramped? A lead-on/transition into the next page? Or just kind of a mixture of things? Thanks for your patience!

@Spirit of Water: I don't mind technical questions at all! There's a couple of reasons that the panel got extended off the end of the page like that, but they're not particularly deep ones in this case. For one, I often like to have a panel that extends off the page 'lead in' and one 'lead out'. I do this a lot, it looks nice to me and makes a nice path to read the page with. Another reason is because I had more in that panel that needed to be shown, so having a taller panel worked. Finally, having the panel extend just looked nicer next to the closed panel to the left of it. Adds a lil' more visual interest.

There's a lot of 'rules' comic artists will come up with for their paneling. It's fun, because different artists will do certain things for totally different reasons, and some will do things other artists would NEVER do. All because, while there are a lot of pieces of advice that are good for everyone, there's a lot of things that come down to your gut, and your personal language for telling a story. There's a lot to be controlled when it comes to comics, concerning things such as leading the eye, clarity, controlling the passage of time, etc, and everyone's got their own ways of doing it :3

@H0lyhandgrenade: Thank you so much! That makes sense. I had seen "transitions/fade-ins-or-outs" of varying widths of consecutive rectangles, but I hadn't considered a long panel for leading before this page. Fun things to think about~ :) (And I hadn't noticed, but along with balancing the previous panel, it also lets the speech bubbles follow a path. :D)

I really appreciate you sharing your process. If it's okay, I'll be back when I have more questions. :3 Thank you so much again!

Maybe she's forgotten, maybe she's playing the long game, it's hard to say with George. D:

Makes me think of Tracer’s “Serious” highlight intro. It just can’t happen.

You know, my respect for these people has evened back out. Sure, they seemed like jerks before, but it was after Atti, to their perception, unfairly and without provocation insulted the pokemon of one of their members. He didn't actually mean to do that but you can't blame them for seeing it that way. It wasn't nice to retaliate as they did, but they clearly can be quite nice to everyday people, especially kindred spirits. None of them acted snooty about George's pride in her perfectly ordinary pokemon, and that's sweet.
