"Do you call every photo a camera spews out art?"
Yes. I. Yes obviously just because nobody painted it doesn't mean that no one framed the shot or subject matter like. Wow fanclub guy I'm about to have an actual honest to god discussion about what constitutes as art in a goddamn pokemon webcomic how dare you be written to have such decidedly wrong opinions about art.
October 15th, 2018, 5:34 pm
@Burr: He's not really wrong, though. Photography is a great art form, but there's kind of a huge gulf between a well-crafted composition and a drunken selfie.

@Guest: Just as there is a huge gulf between a well set up, well lit camera shot and a crayola doodle.
October 24th, 2018, 3:13 pm
@FWKnight: The point is that Burr seemed to assume that Gentleman was dismissing all photography when Gentleman specifically said 'EVERY photo'. Just as you can't call everything on a piece of paper 'art', you can't call every photograph a piece of art just because it happens to replicate what was seen.

Also, take a crayon scribble:

@Guest: I wasn't talking about EVERY photo though. I specifically said well lit, well set up. Also, that is by no means a scribble or doodle.
October 15th, 2018, 5:13 pm
Could be worse, they could be talking to an actual photographer.

Mustache off.
October 15th, 2018, 5:33 pm
to be fair, i dont think there is much meaning in a painting of a horse that is on fire. only so much you can get out of that

No George, don't interrupt I wanna see more XD

The Professional vs The Passionate
October 15th, 2018, 6:27 pm
When two mustaches are in the same room, their wearers must do battle till there is but a single mustache remaining.

Woah! What's gonna happen next?!
October 15th, 2018, 7:46 pm
Well of course creativity and the abilty to represent emotions through intent is important. Keyword... INTENT.
It's art if it's intentional, not if it's just a limitation of skill.
For example, Picasso... I hate his work. Don't like it one bit. But I respect it and its premise. He is trying to convey a message, AND, he could actually draw when he wanted too.
On the other hand...
Van Gogh, I love his work. Fun to look at, and pretty. But I don't have as much respect for it. It was drawn like that mostly due the fact that he wasn't a very skilled artist.
You can still create art without being technically skilled, like van gogh, but that doesn't mean something is art regardless of skill just because you say so.

Prediction: They're gonna have an art competition.

TRUE ART I have an uncle, i haven't met him yet. He lives in Europe. My uncle lives out of his "art". I have seen his "art" on facebook. A picture of him holding one of his "Paintings" that was sold, as said at the picture's comment section, for mre than €5000.

His art made me think that what my 3 year old nephw painted later that same day could be sold for the same price using the "artist's" way of thinking. I will try to find said picture to show you all later.

I love the invisible suit reference. And this is making me flashback to school where two pictures would be next to each other and while one was more poorly drawn than the other, people picked that one because it looked more interesting. That was a hard pill to swallow back then and the president guy is making me hate him for giving me flashbacks >8(

They both kinda have a point
October 15th, 2018, 10:53 pm
Short story is that art is subjective and no matter what anything can be art. That is also kinda the issue though as "art" had been thrown away multiple times in museums because the janitor couldn't tell it apart from literal trash. Modern art aside though I feel most people draw a line somewhere but that is their personal line to be drawn. To H0ly my misshapen drawing of a person might be more of a doodle than art but to someone who only draw stick people it could be art to them. I think everybody have different standards. Artirus judge art by personal skill in recreating the subject where Ponyta fetish club guy don't see the point of just recreating something as in his eyes you may as well trace or in his paraphrase words just take a photo of it instead and value doing something new over raw skills. In a way they both have a fair point. Personally I'm on Articus's side on this one as they both can be art and ponyta guy have no right to talk down on one style and assume his favorite style is somehow an exception. Beside as modern art had prove Articus isn't wrong in his opinions.

I feel like this is past Team Rocket Bizness and has gotten personal for Atty.

Seriously though. While the Gentlemen (for lack of a better descriptor) has a point, to call photo-realism through panting not an art form is to spit in the face of any of the great artists that came before either of them.

And yes, photography can be an art form.

Honestly these guys deserve what's coming to them, or at least the Gentlemen.

As a professional photographer, i can't decide if the old geezer's comment bothers me because he's also implying that no photo that comes out of a camera is art.
Or if it's a little refreshing, because I'm tired of people saying they're 'professional photographers' when they come into my studio say that because they take a bunch of photos on their phones, casually, some of the time.
I feel this argument Is deeply flawed and that bothers me the most.

Kinda hard to judge Articus' art when you haven't even seen it though...
October 16th, 2018, 2:33 pm
I was going to take a side initially, but really they both have a point in their own way. The old guy's just being a jerk about it.

I had an art teacher like that in middle school, just the other way around. They viewed realistic art as the only art, and anything anime-esque wasn't art. Sucked the joy out of the class, they did.

...Makes me root for Atty all the more, honestly. XD
October 24th, 2018, 3:18 pm
@Snow7L: Which is pretty funny because Atticus dismissed all of the other art in the room because in-universe he draws hyperrealism. He'd hate your animes, too.

Gentleman is actually making the argument that even though the artwork on the walls isn't technically skilled, but it was made with love and passion.

@PK_Artist: Sure. I don't mind. I'm not a member of Smackjeeves [yet]... but I plan on becoming one soon. What do you have in mind?
Adam1O1 (Guest)
October 18th, 2018, 7:58 pm
@PK_Artist: hmm... I kind of wanted to stay away from name brand, licensed material because it's hard to call most of its aspects your own, and if your planning on selling it, the company may want to sue you and reap your financial bonuses
October 18th, 2018, 8:49 pm
@PK_Artist: Guys... Not really the best place to discuss this xD Maybe take it to PMs or something.

@H0lyhandgrenade: Holy's right. I don't think we should overshadow Mokepon with our novice jabbering.
So I guess I'll PM (If I figure out how to do that) after I register and discuss it with you further, maybe at a later date.

Considering ive drawn Atti for you at one point or another (and yes i still intend to and remember for what), this whole creative vs. Realistic art is hitting....really close to home...
