I never like an argument that ends with 'Fine.' Feels bad man. No argument ends well with 'fine'.

Ah'll sithee later.

Pretty lame counterarguments there Atty. You dug your own hole. George really got into him.

That's kind of brilliant. Using her own 'selfish' arguement against her to make her feel bad.

I mean, she's right but at the same time... He didn't have a lot of choice, didn't the dude threaten him with a gun? Pretty sure that's a good enough reason to be a little selfish...

@Mooniesoop: Atty made his own bed by joining Team Rocket and agreeing to steal Pokemon in the first place. His own selfishness is what led to the situation where Dragonthing was taken away which leads to more selfishness being his solution to the problem.

It's not wrong for George or anyone else to go: You made your bed, lie in it, you don't get to keep being selfish over and over and over.

@MoogleSam: Very succinctly put, well done. Also if he were less inclined to seek selfish means of solving his problem, he MIGHT be able to get HELP, and any help is good, even if he doesn't think George is good help. But she's not going to help him with anything if his solution is still selfish.

@MoogleSam: Wasn't there an inherent WHY he joined Team Rocket? Instead of just a great plot twist?

@Josh Spicer: I reread the chapter where he encountered Team Rocket properly and decided to join so I could answer your question properly and the answer to that is: Atty joined because he was selfish and because Estelle gives a good sales pitch to someone like Atty who is a fairly self-centered person.

When he fully believed Team Rocket was bad, he refused to join. Estelle was good at selling that they were like-minded individuals. That they were just people who found it hard to do the whole friendship route. He joined them out of self-interest even though he had seen for himself that Team Rocket DOES do bad things. At least partially, he was a teenager being taken advantage of by an adult that knew he didn't want to feel alone in his struggle and appealed to that. But he also acted in selfishness by joining them as he damn well knew they were the kind of people to steal Pokemon.

As an adult, I have sympathy for him and know it isn't entirely his fault. But George is around the same age, so it isn't really wrong for her to go 'You made your bed, lie in it! You don't get to hurt other people because there are consequences to your bad life decisions!'

"Fine" is such a dense little word when it's used to end an argument. Who would ever think without seeing it that 'You're still wrong, but you're more stubborn than I and I'm very tired so my only option is to concede and hold a grudge about it.' could be condensed into just four letters!

Well that is great and all Atty, but now you don't have any leverage at all to negotiate with. Thad still has Dragonthing, and George can't help you with this.

Honestly, the only way I'd feel better about this situation is if he just straight up tells her that she isn't allowed to help him. While I'm proud of George for standing up for whats right, I"m also a bit upset at her since she obviously thought he was lying the whole time about Dragonthing being captured. Even if she could help him, I wouldn't be surprised if he just tells her to get lost and don't follow him ever again. The guy legit looks that pissed right now XD (Besides, in a serious situation like this, she'd probably be more of a liability than an asset right now since he's now left with only one option - he has to come up with a plan to steal Dragonthing back without involving anyone else. Yeah...he's totally gonna get shot lol....)

It feels wrong trying to tell Atty "you should have seen this coming when you joined Team Rocket". This whole Pokemon journey thing is supposed to be meant for 10 year old kids and Team Rocket is a pretty common encounter on that journey. There seem to be certain unspoken rules where everybody uses Pokemon to fight instead. Nobody would have foreseen being held at gun point even by Team Rocket. This is the first genuine real "f*ck this isn't a kid's game anymore, no more joking, there's actual danger here" moment either of them really has to face. Lives are on the line so no wonder Atty is so upset and terrified. If he does what Thad wants at least there's a chance everybody lives. Any other option there's a good chance one or more people die. Stealing these Pokemon really is the lesser of 2 evils.

@Guest: But I guess letting DT die and leaving Atty to wallow in his failure and mistakes is the more morally correct option.

Alright yeah, fine.

Give back the Pokemon. Let George be happy. Walk away and let DT die.

I'm okay with conceding "Atty should lie in the bed he made" but I guess that means he'll have to take everything that goes with it because at this point, there is NO conceivable solution that ends with everybody happy.

Seriously feels like you writ yourself into a corner.

@Josh Spicer: You say frequently about me being a bad writer, based on things that haven't happened yet... Have some faith in me. Just because you can't see how things will play out in an interesting way doesn't mean I don't.

@H0lyhandgrenade: If that's the take you took from it than I apologize. I didn't mean to say you're a bad writer. I'm enjoying the story even if the directions it takes aren't my favorite. I think the "going against the status quo" with Atty is brilliant. I just can't see how this could possibly end well for everyone without somebody getting the short end of the stick.

Again, I never meant to say insinuate your writing was bad. It's not. My comments are often reactionary than reviewing or criticizing. I've been burnt too many times by authors I enjoy taking turns in their stories that ultimately affect my enjoyment of the product. Apologies if I'm paranoid or overly negative.

@Josh Spicer: I appreciate you saying that. I didn't want to say anything because I really don't like telling people not to criticize me, but you understand how it's kinda frustrating when it's about things that haven't come to pass yet.

I am glad that you're passionate about the story though! I of course can't promise that things will go in a direction that you like, but I do know where I'm going with it, and I'M happy with where it goes. And my goal in writing is always to write something that I enjoy. I hope that you'll enjoy it too. If you think what does happen is crap, you can be sure to let me know lol. We'll hafta see!

@Josh Spicer: Where was it said that DT would die? Literally reread the beginning of this chapter. Nowhere is it stated or implied that DT would die. The consequences are just that he wouldn't get her back and that it is possible his other Pokemon could be confiscated and he would be given like a Rattata or Zubat or Ekans or something like a normal Grunt.

There are definitely ways this could be written so he can get her back. Off the top of my head, based on the stuff that has happened, I've got:

*Trix or Estelle catches onto Thad's plan, makes him give her back.

*You know how they were in Diglett Tunnel. Swarm of Diglett could be very helpful, I'm just saying.

@MoogleSam: And on the same note as I just told the author, I'm sorry if I'm being overly paranoid or negative. I realize I can overreact to things, especially if something I enjoy is heading into directions I don't like. I've seen it one too many times and I guess I've just gotten tired of seeing things fall. Thank you for trying to argue against me though. I appreciate trying to see things your way.

Weird how many people are echoing the "Nothing's fine when people end an argument with fine" sentiment. To me, he's not ending the argument at all. He didn't say "Fine." and then shove the pokemon into George's arms and walk away, he kept going. What he's doing is trying to get her to back down by pinning DT's potential death on her. He isn't admitting to any wrong on his part, and it doesn't seem like he really intends to give the pokemon back yet.

Course she's not happy, but it's the right thing to do, now we can use a counter-plan, like using all of George's boxspace as a decoy

@H0lyhandgrenade: It's guilt in her eyes. She's realizing that if he does give the Pokemon back, he'll lose Dragonthing. So, she has to choose. Either he loses Dragonthing and the people get their Pokemon back, or he gets Dragonthing back, but the people loses their Pokemon.
